SSG.com Leads the 'Luxury in Little Things' Beauty Trend - 2023 Beauty Awards

The 2023 Beauty Awards, hosted by SSG.com, have become a key indicator of this year's cosmetic consumption trends in South Korea.

Emphasizing the 'Luxury in Little Things' trend, this event spotlighted the most favored beauty products of the year, showcasing the popularity of luxury beauty items even amidst economic downturns.

Despite economic challenges, consumers have continued to invest in high-quality beauty products, with both domestic and international luxury brands dominating sales. This shift reflects a growing preference for personal satisfaction and quality among consumers.

In skincare, premium brands like Kiehl's, Sulwhasoo, and Estée Lauder gained popularity for their quality and effectiveness.

The makeup sector saw a rise in preference for luxury brands like Hera, Dior, and Laura Mercier, indicating a growing market for luxurious makeup experiences.

Personal care products from brands like Clarins, Moroccan Oil, and Aesop also topped the charts, especially among consumers in their 20s and 30s.

This year's SSG.com Beauty Awards have gone beyond mere sales events, marking a significant shift in consumer preferences towards quality and brand value, and suggesting sustainable growth directions for the beauty industry.

LG Household & Health Care Franchise Controversy: Strict Measures and Franchise Business Law Amendment by the Fair Trade Commission

The chairman of the Fair Trade Commission, Han Ki-jung, has announced strict measures in response to the controversy surrounding LG Household & Health Care (LG H&H)'s unfair termination of franchise contracts.

The dispute arose from LG H&H's decision to transition its franchise stores to dealership models, causing widespread dissatisfaction among franchisees. Han emphasized that unfair contract termination or renewal refusal is a critical issue, and any violations of the Franchise Business Law will be dealt with severely.

The Fair Trade Commission is also pushing for amendments to this law, which would mandate franchisors to specify essential item categories and pricing calculation methods in contracts and prohibit unilateral detrimental changes to trade conditions.

This amendment is expected to provide greater protection for franchisees and prevent franchisors from altering terms without consultation, thus enhancing fairness in franchise businesses.

LG Household & Health Care Wins Environmental Minister's Award for Recycled Plastic Packaging

LG Household & Health Care has been awarded the Environmental Minister's Award at the 13th Green Packaging Contest for being the first in Korea's cosmetics industry to use 100% recycled plastic pyrolysis oil for eco-friendly cosmetic containers.

This initiative signifies a commitment to sustainability by reusing plastic waste without incineration, thus reducing carbon emissions while ensuring container strength and safety from harmful substances.

This year, LG H&H began producing its Clean Beauty brand Beyond's 'Angel Aqua Cream Love Us Edition' using these recycled containers. Additionally, the company is processing sterilized pack recycling paper for use in toothpaste and cosmetic packaging.

LG H&H's efforts in sustainable packaging are seen as leading examples of how companies can contribute to environmental protection and sustainable business practices.

After reviewing 100 online posts, the MFDS found that 82 of them violated Korea’s cosmetics regulations, leading to requests for the posts to be blocked by the Korea Communications Standards Commission.
