Restoration of Korea-China Cosmetic Exchange and Expansion of Electronic Signature Certification

According to an announcement made on May 18, 2023, the cosmetic trade relationship between South Korea and China, which had been suspended since February 2019 following the Yoon Seok-youl administration, has now been restored.

On May 9th, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) established an agreement for sustained collaboration in the cosmetic sector.

One of the significant points of the agreement is China's acknowledgment of the electronic sales certifications issued in South Korea, paving the way for a streamlined cosmetics export process. This agreement is anticipated to reduce the administrative burden and paperwork associated with cosmetics exports.

Starting from June 1st, the Korea Cosmetic Association began issuing electronic signature certifications to seven ASEAN countries (Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Laos), and from August 16th, they began providing the same service to China.

These electronic certifications come with an electronic timestamp to prevent tampering. Cosmetic companies can apply for and receive these certifications from the association, which can then be printed out and used.

The introduction of these electronic certifications enhances convenience and document reliability in the cosmetics industry, marking a significant departure from the conventional stamped paper certificates.

If a company cannot print the certification themselves, the association also offers a service where they print and dispatch the certificate. All these developments hint at prospective mutual benefits and growth in the Korea-China cosmetic market.

iN-SIS5, unlike botulinum toxin, is not a toxin but is deemed highly safe and efficient both in its use and production. Intronbio is collaborating with Node Mason, which owns the cosmetic brand 'HUXLEY', to commercialize this material, and Node Mason's skincare research institute led the registration process. The head of research and the representative of Intronbio emphasized the diverse cosmetic benefits of iN-SIS5 and highlighted the rapid commercialization strategy derived from new drug developments, unveiling plans for its expansion to various domains.

Misleading Claims in Microneedle Skincare Products: 82 Cases Identified

Recently, microneedle skincare products have gained significant popularity, but Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has uncovered that over 80% of these products being sold online are making false or exaggerated claims. After reviewing 100 online posts, the MFDS found that 82 of them violated Korea’s cosmetics regulations, leading to requests for the posts to be blocked by the Korea Communications Standards Commission.
