Effectiveness and necessity of Eye Cream

Introduction

There are many cosmetics made simply only for marketing purposes in the market, but eye cream is certainly not one of them. As you get older, the skin around your eyes is one of the fastest parts of aging and is one of the wrinkles that many people most cares about.

"The skin around the eyes should continue to be taken care of."
You've probably heard these stories at least once in your life.

If so, how is it different from other skin areas?

In fact, it is of course important to take care of your entire face, including other skin areas.

But did you know that the skin around your eyes should be taken care of more specially than other skin areas?

Through this article, let's find out why the skin around the eyes gets wrinkled a lot, why you should take care of it, and how you should take care of it.

Differences between facial skin and the skin around the eyes

There are three main differences between skin around the eyes and other skin.

  1. The skin around the eyes is thinner than other skin areas. The difference can range from 0.3 mm to 1 mm.
  2. The skin around the eyes lacks sebaceous glands, so the sebaceous layer is very scarce.
  3. The skin of eyes moves restlessly except when sleeping.

Why should we take care of and use eye cream?

Ultraviolet rays may have the biggest impact on our skin in our daily lives. It is the skin that protects us from the ultraviolet rays.

However, thin skin means that it is very vulnerable to ultraviolet rays. Therefore, the skin around the eyes are most affected by ultraviolet rays than any other skin.

Moreover, the skin around the eyes lacks sebaceous glands. There is a protective layer called the septum in our skin. The sebum membrane is a membrane created by sebum discharged from hair holes through hair follicles.

This sebum layer stays on the surface of the skin and plays an important role in preventing the evaporation of moisture from the skin.

The secretion of sebum increases rapidly in adolescence, which is why many adolescent children have a lot of acne. (How excessive sebum causes acne)

And there may be a difference in the amount of sebum depending on your skin type. (Skin type)

However, even if one has really oily type of the skin, there is a very high probability that the skin area of eyes are still dry. And this lack of sebum easily evaporates the moisture around the eyes, which makes aging progress faster.

Finally, our eyes blink continuously, except when we are sleeping. This makes the skin around the eyes wrinkle easily.

How should we take care of aging around the eyes?

The answer is rather simple. It can be managed using cosmetics.

There are various eye products in cosmetics. You can use essence, serum, gel, and cream to suit your taste.

However, it is important to note that eye cream is a must.

Like other cosmetics, there is oil in the cream family. It acts like a sebum, preventing moisture from evaporating from our skin. Therefore, in fact, applying just one eye cream will greatly help prevent aging.

For your information, it will not be easy to feel less wrinkles or younger just by applying eye cream. It should be noted that the main purpose is to prevent getting older and to prolong aging.

Why use Eye Cream?

As mentioned earlier, the main purpose is to prevent evaporation of moisture.

In the case of eye essence or eye serum, active ingredients can give good nutrients to the skin. However, since there is little oil, it is most likely that those ingredients will evaporate with moisture.

Therefore, it is essential to apply cream on top of essence or serum.

Then, can I use regular cream instead of eye cream? You can use it first. But It's not recommended.

The reasons are microorganisms and pH concentrations.

When making cosmetics, manufacturers consider the health of users and produce them according to the pH of the skin in which the product is used.

For more information, please refer to the link(on why knowing pH is important)

In the case of eye cream, pH 7.0 is targeted, considering that the pH of the eye is about 7.0. In this way, even if cream enters the eye by mistake, it is designed to not affect the pupil as much as possible.

Lastly, in the case of eye cosmetics, requirements are made more difficult than other facial cosmetics.

According to cosmetics safety standards(in Korea), manufacturers must conduct microbiological tests before releasing of products, while other cosmetics allow up to 1,000 total count of microorganism per gram in , while eye makeup products only allow up to 500.

Therefore, for safer use, it is desirable to use eye-only cosmetics around the eyes.

Misleading Claims in Microneedle Skincare Products: 82 Cases Identified

Recently, microneedle skincare products have gained significant popularity, but Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has uncovered that over 80% of these products being sold online are making false or exaggerated claims. After reviewing 100 online posts, the MFDS found that 82 of them violated Korea’s cosmetics regulations, leading to requests for the posts to be blocked by the Korea Communications Standards Commission. The misleading advertisements primarily claimed that microneedles could penetrate deep into the skin layers or promised immediate pore reduction, both of which are not scientifically validated for general cosmetic products. Microneedles are a medical technology designed to deliver substances into the deeper layers of the skin, typically used in drugs and medical devices. However, in the cosmetics industry, these products generally do not have the same capabilities. Some companies falsely advertised their products as having effects similar t...
