Which would be better, regular cosmetics or Derma Cosmetics?

Introduction

Whether it's Derma Cosmetics or regular cosmetics, it's the same cosmetics. There may have been a little difference before, but it is safe to say that there is no difference between the two now.

How did the word "Derma Cosmetics" come into being?

Cosmetic companies each try different marketing to show their own strengths. In fact, Derma Cosmetics is only one of them.

At first, they started marketing using the compound word "cosmeceutical". "Cosmeceutical" is a combination of "Cosmetics" and "Pharmaceutical", which is a medicinal word.

Thanks to this, consumers somehow fell into the illusion that medicinal cosmetics might be more effective for their skin, and as a result, sales of these cosmetics grew rapidly.

However, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety banned the expression, pointing out that it could confuse consumers.

When the use of "Cosmeceutical" was banned, a new compound word was introduced to the market: "Derma Cosmetics".

"Derma Cosmetics" is a combination of "Dermatology" and "Cosmetics" and has a marketing effect that gives consumers a dermatological impression.

The difference between the two

As I said in the Introduction, there is no difference. This is because no matter how the smartest doctor really made it, and no matter how much a specialized institution that makes medicine made it, it is eventually made according to cosmetic regulations.

If antibiotics were used to make a cosmetic product, in order to make it more special and more Derma Cosmetics, it could no longer be called a cosmetic, nor could it be sold in cosmetics stores, because it clearly violated cosmetic regulations.

This is the same as cosmetics sold at hospitals and at pharmacies.

Sometimes it's called "Skin Clinic Cosmetics" because it's sold in hospitals, but it's a cosmetic that hospitals use to provide additional help in treating patients, not a medical cosmetic that's better than regular cosmetics.

Same as cosmetics sold at pharmacies. It is sold at pharmacies because a brand chose a distribution channel as a pharmacy, not because those cosmetics are much more special than regular cosmetics.

A different approach

I have explained that the reason for the release of Derma Cosmetics was marketing by various brands. But in fact, it is chicken and egg.

This is because there is another theory that consumer trends wanted professional cosmetics, and this is why Derma Cosmetics was created

Previously, there were many cosmetics products that appealed to emotions. This is because product satisfaction was evaluated by the word of mouth and by famous people rather than verified data. At the time, a slogan such as "good application" and "clean sensation" was sufficient to attract customer.

Also, when you see how the advertisement worked 20~30 years ago, you would understand what I mean. In the past, when a popular movie star or singer appears in an advertisement to promote a product, so many people were moved to buy the product after watching advertisement. (At least in Asia was)

However, as trends gradually changed, consumers began to look for proven products.
  • Which ingredients are better?
  • What is the test result for the components?
  • Whether the ingredients are natural or synthetic

This trend change has led cosmetics companies to create Derma Cosmetics and has led them to manufacture and advertise cosmetics tailored to the needs of consumers.
