Kolon succeeded in mass producing Reuterin for preservatives

Introduction

Kolon Industries announced on the 29th that they have succeeded in mass production of Reuterin, which can be used as food additives and natural preservatives for cosmetics.

This is a bio-production technology achieved through a 100% fermentation process as a result of joint research for about 4 years with the Korea Institute of Biotechnology.

In addition, using the Reuterin, "PreserVeil", a liquid-type natural preservative, was developed.

What is Reuterin

Reuterin is an antibacterial substance produced by 'Lactobacillus reuteri', the first lactobacillus found in breast milk, and has three representative functions.
1. Controlling(Limiting) the growth of bacteria and fungi
2. Effects of improving intestinal health and strengthening immunity
3. Nontoxic

Although it was a very effective ingredient, Reuterin was difficult to use as a preservative due to its low production volume and a long time in the production process.

The Necessity of PreserVeil

Cosmetics are vulnerable to external pollution, so preservatives are an essential raw material. However, most preservatives are chemical synthetic raw materials, and there are many risk factors such as skin irritation and carcinogenesis.

In the case of PreserVeil containing Reuterin, this risk is significantly low as a natural preservative. It is a stable raw material, and thus it is expected to replace a synthetic raw material that has been previously used in the cosmetics industry.

Research continues to be conducted to ensure that this raw material is used not only for cosmetics but also for household goods, food additives, and crop protection agents.

Extra information

This PreserVeil also obtained COSMOS (Cosmetic Organic Standard), an international standard for organic and natural cosmetics stipulated by European cosmetics certification agencies

Among them, it received an "Approved" rating, a 100% natural cosmetics raw material certification.
