The Power of Retinol in Skincare Products

Retinol: A Wrinkle-Busting Ingredient

Retinol, a skincare ingredient known for its excellent wrinkle-improvement properties, is gaining renewed attention in the industry. Since 1994, AmorePacific's brand, IOPE, has been actively researching Retinol, garnering over 26 billion won in sales since launching their 0.1% and 0.3% Retinol cosmetics in 2020.

The Effectiveness of Retinol

Their newly introduced "Retinol Expert 0.2%" has achieved remarkable success with more than 28% reduction in pore area after two weeks and 49% reduction after four weeks, confirmed by human testing. Retinol is a type of vitamin A that accelerates the skin turnover cycle, promotes collagen production, and reduces oil production.

Challenges of Using Retinol in Cosmetics

Obtaining functional certification from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for Retinol-infused products is a challenging task. Retinol's propensity for degradation requires careful stabilization to prove its wrinkle-improving effectiveness.

Precautions when Using Retinol

Despite its benefits, Retinol is not suitable for everyone. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those with eczema or rosacea, should avoid Retinol. Furthermore, Retinol can make the skin more sensitive and prone to irritation. Hence, first-time users are advised to start with low concentrations and gradually increase to suit their skin tolerance.

Misleading Claims in Microneedle Skincare Products: 82 Cases Identified

Recently, microneedle skincare products have gained significant popularity, but Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has uncovered that over 80% of these products being sold online are making false or exaggerated claims. After reviewing 100 online posts, the MFDS found that 82 of them violated Korea’s cosmetics regulations, leading to requests for the posts to be blocked by the Korea Communications Standards Commission. The misleading advertisements primarily claimed that microneedles could penetrate deep into the skin layers or promised immediate pore reduction, both of which are not scientifically validated for general cosmetic products. Microneedles are a medical technology designed to deliver substances into the deeper layers of the skin, typically used in drugs and medical devices. However, in the cosmetics industry, these products generally do not have the same capabilities. Some companies falsely advertised their products as having effects similar t...

Cosmax sees this technology not only advancing hair loss treatment materials but also setting a new standard in ...
